0-7 HCP: Pass, or bid 2 of a 5+ card suit — prefer bidding when total points (HCP + suit length beyond 4) are under 5, with 0-1 cards in the opener's suit, or with a 6+ card suit.

8-9 HCP: 2NT if balanced. If unbalanced, Pass with 0-1 cards in the opener's suit, otherwise 2NT.

10+ HCP: 6+ card major — bid game (4M). 5 card major — bid 3M. Otherwise (balanced, a long minor, or no fitting shape) — bid 3NT.
